Gabriella, The Amazing Green Caterpillar

Once upon a…twice upon a…thrice upon a time, there was an amazing, green caterpillar whose name was Gabriella. Now Gabriella could not move very fast and she liked to eat a lot. She never had a planned meal. She just ate whatever she wanted whenever she wanted it and everything was oh so delicious!

She never had a planned meal. She just ate whatever she wanted whenever she wanted it and everything was oh so delicious!

Gabriella also had a best friend, Dominiqua, who was an earthworm. Now Dominiqua had a secret about her that nobody, including Gabriella, knew about. Whenever her tail was cut off, she would just grow a new one.

So, Gabriella and Dominiqua were talking one day and Gabriella said:GABRIELLA: “Hey, guess what, Dominiqua?” DOMINIQUA: “What is it Gabriella?” GABRIELLA: “I just found a brand new, unique green leaf to eat today.” Dominiqua was sad at first because she never related well to grocery shopping sprees.

GABRIELLA: “Hey, guess what, Dominiqua?”
DOMINIQUA: “What is it Gabriella?”
GABRIELLA: “I just found a brand new, unique green leaf to eat today.”
Dominiqua was sad at first because she never related well to grocery shopping sprees.

DOMINIQUA: “What’s so special about this leaf?” GABRIELLA: “Oh, nothing. I just thought, WOW! I love the decorating concepts!” DOMINIQUA: “Well are you just going to look at it or are you going to eat it?” GABRIELLA: “Well of course I’m going to eat it, but I was really just hoping to get your opinion about it.”

GABRIELLA: “Well of course I’m going to eat it, but I was really just hoping to get your opinion about it.”

DOMINIQUA: “You’re just wasting your time with all of your fancy collecting of artful leaves and such…they’re all just going down to one place, your stomach, and then it nourishes you! End of story…period!!”GABRIELLA: “Well, Gee, Dominiqua, haven’t you ever heard the phrase you are what you eat? Well, I am not boring and I do not want to eat boring food that all looks the same. Life is so much more exciting and colorful than that!” DOMINIQUA: “Whatever you say. I just know that I’m a little brown earthworm, I eat dirt, and my world is basically BROWN!”

GABRIELLA: “Well, I guess we really don’t see life the same way. I am going to disappear now for a while because it seems that I make you mad in my search for colorful, vibrant things to make life less drab and dull. When I return, we will both have our different uniqueness. I just hope that we could once again appreciate one another.”And with that, Gabriella ate so much that she could move no more.

She started getting sleepy, but she could never find a very comfortable position, so she kept turning and turning. All the while, some strange, fuzzy, cushion-like material formed around her. She finally felt warm, un-pestered by Dominiqua, and just fell asleep in her own peaceful world, her cocoon.

Just then, the robin let go of her grip and poor ‘ol Dominiqua fell to the ground, but luckily, a spider’s web caught her fall just in the nick of time.

DOMINIQUA: “Hi Gabriella! You are looking sharp there with those snazzy wings. I can hardly believe it is you. How are you?”
GABRIELLA: “Oh, I’m pretty well, Dominiqua. Hey, what happened to your tail?”
DOMINIQUA: “Oh, that darn robin must have nipped off the end before she dropped me into that spider’s web. But don’t worry; just between you and me, it’ll grow back.”
GABRIELLA: “You can grow another tail? Wow! And I thought I was the only one with amazing abilities!”
DOMINIQUA: “Yeah, well I might have very simple functions and eat a basic diet, but my tail is an important tool, so somehow I can replace it.”
GABRIELLA: “I suppose we all have our own unique, special gifts.” I have just been thinking a lot inside my cocoon and I came to the conclusion that we are just different. We think about food’s purpose differently. Even if you wanted to eat different leaves like me, you would always be an earthworm. And there just is not any way in the world you are going to find me eating dirt. It is just not who I am. But no matter. I think we can be friendly, but due to our differences, we need our separate worlds. I shall fly to the sky now, my dear friend, and you will just keep your nose to the grindstone.”
And they lived happily ever after saying, “Hi!” now and then. For some require a different diet to become a butterfly to fly through life and some require tools to dig through life.
MORAL OF THE STORY: Never tell a caterpillar they eat too much nor eat too fancy a feast for they may need to sprout wings to escape you. Never doubt an earthworm’s ability to survive because they can find replacements.
